AUDITION FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What kind of commitment do I have to make to be in the Husky Marching Band?
The Husky Band meets eight hours a week for rehearsals and all day on gamedays during Fall Quarter. Rehearsals are generally held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday in Husky Stadium, Dempsey Indoor Practice Facility, or the East Practice Field. Although course credit is only given during Fall Quarter, Husky Band is a year-round commitment, as smaller pep bands are requested for community and corporate performances throughout the year.

Do you have to be a music major to be in the Husky Marching Band?
No. In fact, Husky Band is proud that we have band members majoring in everything from Architecture to Zoology. Music majors make up a very small percentage of our total membership.

How much money do I have to fundraise?
If you were in high school band, chances are you did plenty of fundraising. The Husky Band historically does very little fundraising as the UW Department of Intercollegiate Athletics pays for our expenses; including meals on trips.

Are any scholarships available?
Yes, but only to members who have been in the Husky Band for at least one year. Scholarships are awarded to members of the band at the end of the year based on marching skill, performance, and commitment to the organization.

What is the audition like?
For the audition, you will need to demonstrate some technique (scales, etc.) on your instrument, as well as perform music sent to you in advance. This will include our fight song and a few short excerpts of Husky Band favorites. It is not difficult but will require some attention and preparation.

What if I need an instrument?
The Husky Band has a number of instruments available for checkout by band members - Piccolos, Alto and Tenor Saxophones, Mellophones (F Horns), Marching Baritones, Sousaphones, and Percussion. We have a very limited number of other instruments as well. There is no charge for this service.

The Husky Athletic Bands are a great way to get involved at the UW and with UW Athletics. Our members pride themselves on the "family" atmosphere they create, which makes our campus seem a lot smaller. Membership is open to anyone who attends any of the UW Campuses, as well as any colleges in the greater Seattle area. Auditions Videos for the 2024 - 2025 school year will be due on Thursday, August 1st, with Drumline Auditions taking place in-person on Saturday, June 1st, 2024.
